About
Avala Lab

Avala Art Lab, comprising the Forest Art Residency and Micro Gallery, brings together artists and researchers who explore the relationships between art, space, ecology, archives, and knowledge through contemporary artistic practices.

The residency is conceived as a long-term platform for the development of contemporary artistic practices through research, on-site work, and sustained engagement with place. Art is the central field of action and thought, shaping questions of space, materiality, ecology, memory, and knowledge. Interdisciplinarity functions as a method of artistic practice, where artworks enter into dialogue with topography, ecological processes, archival materials, and scientific research. The residency encourages process-oriented work, in which projects emerge from contextual research, material experimentation, field studies, archival investigation, and knowledge exchange with other disciplines, with a focus on the artistic process as a space for critical thinking, experimentation, and the production of meaning.

Set within the decentralized forest environment of Avala, which carries historical and cultural significance, Avala Art Lab provides a space that is not only physically open but also capable of engaging participants and the public through a socially relevant program. Work in this environment aims toward a humane approach to art, creating experiences that connect people, place, and ecological context, offering a quality setting conducive to research, reflection, and collective engagement.
